*️⃣Fenix Museum of Migration Architect #MAD City #Rotterdam Country #Netherlands #EU 🔤The warehouse in Rotterdam's City Harbour has been converted into a museum by restoration consultants Bureau Polderman to tell stories of migration through art. #refurbishment Its centerpiece is the Tornado – a pair of giant helical staircases by MAD that winds up from the ground floor of the building and out from its roof, culminating at a viewpoint overlooking the River Maas. The Tornado was designed to symbolize movement. "The theme migration is about movement, so the staircase is about movement." Meanwhile the steps are finished with 12,500 planks of modified wood called Kebony, designed to emulate a ship. Once the largest warehouse in the world, it was chosen for the museum for its history as a storage space for the Holland America Line, via which millions of migrants, including Albert Einstein, were transported in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure also features a 6,750-square-meter green roof planted with sedum, significantly reducing pressure on the sewer system, lowering flood risk, and easing the burden on water treatment facilities. #sustainability 🔤 Colour #reflective Material #steel Function #public #museum Address: Paul Nijghkade 5, 3072 AT Rotterdam, Netherlands Google street Canopy google street Interior google street Google Earth ©️ pics by #IwanBaan text by Dezeen and Archdaily subscribe to Please open Telegram to view this post VIEW IN TELEGRAM
